THE BLESSING
Fall is in the air. Cool weather, gentle breezes, beautiful foliage, and FOOTBALL (Go Cowboys). I don't know about you but it is one of my favorite times of year. As we look forward to the Thanksgiving and Christmas season I want us to focus on God's blessings in our life and how we can be a blessing to others, especially those in our family. This will be our focus of Faith@Home through December.
As I ponder this change of season I think about the many blessings God has bestowed upon me and my family. However; I also realize that many times the pressure of this season causes stress and pressure within the family resulting in fussing and arguing with one another. Sometimes we just forget how blessed we really are and we start to complain and focus on the negatives of life. That's natural as we are in difficult times in this economy and the world in general.
I want to challenge you over the next three months to intentionalize being a blessing to your family and others this season. We need to build a culture within our families of blessing each other and together as a family blessing others. Blessings can start with just a simple word of blessings to each other and expand to "acts of Blessings' for one another. Proverbs 21:18 says; "death and life are in the power of the tongue.' James 3:10 says; "out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not be so." I think it's clear, we have the power to choose if we will be a blessing, or not.
The blessing is a powerful tool with which we can communicate, love, acceptance, and commitment to a child, a loved one, a friend, and even a stranger. Everyone needs to experience unconditional love and acceptance, especially our children. Anyone can give a blessing, but the most important and powerful comes from parents to their children.
I want to encourage you to click on the icon provided in this devotion called "the blessing@home" and print it out. Read and follow the simple ways to give a blessing and see what God will do in your family relationships. Take the quiz, talk about it, and get started at "BEING A BLESSING" today.
Now go to Faith Talk for further discussion.
